NEW SPIRAL STAIRS, BRIDGE AND ROOF HANDRAILS
Ansonia, CT
The owner of these two tanks wanted complete and easier access to both roofs simultaneously. The project included a spiral stair system on the first tank, a bridge spanning across the second tank with roof handrail enclosures on both. In order to extend the life of this system and preserve the new coating, all components were hot-dip galvanized prior to installation.
To ensure final fit-up, the roof railings were fabricated and pre-assembled on both tanks before the painting phase was complete, then removed and sent off to be galvanized. |

The stair system attachment anchors were located and welded in place in advance of the fabrication. These two steps allowed the painting phase of the project to be completed while the stairs and bridge were fabricated and galvanized.
|
After the painting phase was complete, the newly fabricated and galvanized stairs were delivered and erected on the first tank. A hydraulic crane was used to set the pre-assembled stair sections while workers attached them to the previously installed shell anchors.

Next, the bridge was set in place between the two tanks and attached to the stairs. Knee braces were added for additional support and nylon pads were utilized on one end to allow movement between the two tanks.
|
Finally, the roof handrail systems were installed on each of the two tanks, completing a well designed comprehensive system.
