SUPPORT COLUMN REPLACEMENT
Seakonk, MA
1,000,000 GALLON ELEVATED TANK
Tubular support columns of elevated water tanks are required to be sealed so that water and moisture does not enter the column and cause corrosion. There are times when a cracked weld or hole develops which will allow water to enter and accumulate in the column. This, over time, causes corrosion on the column interior, and has even led to the complete collapse of the water tower. When this happens in the northern states, severe damage can result as the water freezes and expands in the winter.

In this case an electrical contractor drilled and left an open hole in the top of the column which took several years to fill with water. It froze and burst one cold winter night. The freezing of the water caused the 1/2" thick 30" diameter column to split open fifty feet vertically.
All America visited the site to assess the situation. A temporary column was designed and installed for support while the damaged column was replaced. We designed, fabricated and installed a new column section on an expedited schedule to quickly put the tank back into service. |
